2019.11.28.(목)~11.30.(토) 인도 구자라트에서 한국학진흥사업단과 인도 네루대학교 및 구자라트대학교가 공동 주관한 한국-인도 국제학술대회 「한국과 인도, 공존의 파트너쉽: 과거, 현재, 미래」가 개최되었다. 이번 행사는 지난해 7월 한-인도 정상회담에서 문재인 대통령이 8세기 승려 혜초가 인도 모디 총리의 고향인 구자라트를 포함하여 인도 5대 왕국을 다녀온 후 ⟪왕오천축국전⟫을 저술한 사실을 소개하면서 양국 공동 학술 행사를 개최를 제안하였고, 모디 총리가 이에 동의한데 따라 개최가 이루어진 것이다.

개회식에서는 유은혜 사회부총리 겸 교육부장관의 축하 영상이 소개되었으며 모디 총리 명의의 축하 메시지가 낭독되었고, 인도 전통 댄스 공연 등의 행사가 있었다.

  이번 학술대회에서는 30여명의 한국학 학자들이 참여하여 발표 및 의견 교환이 이루어졌으며, 이를 통해 양국 학자들 간 긴밀한 네트워크 구축뿐만 아니라 한-인도 관계를 한 단계 더 발전시키기 위해 문화‧학술 등 다분야에서 협력을 강화하여 상호 이해와 신뢰의 기반을 마련해 나아가는 것이 필요하다는 공감대를 형성하였다.

Hosting of Korea-India International Academic Conference Entitled “A Partnership of Coexistence between Korea and India: Past, Present, and Future”

 

  The Korean Studies Promotion Service together with Jawaharlal Nehru University and Gujarat University held a Korea-India international academic conference entitled “A Partnership of Coexistence between Korean and India: Past, Present, and Future” from November 28 to November 30, 2019 in the city of Gujarat. In July 2019, President Moon Jae-in visited India for a summit meeting and introduced the book Wanggocheonchukgukjeon, which includes the story of the Buddhist monk Hyecho who visited five kingdoms in India, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s hometown of Gujarat. President Moon also suggested holding a joint academic conference and Prime Minister Modi agreed, resulting in this November academic conference.

   A video message from Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education Yoo Eun-hye was shown and a congratulatory message from Prime Minister Modi was read. This was followed by various events including a traditional Indian dance performance.

   Roughly thirty Korean Studies scholars attended the conference to give presentations and share their thoughts. Through this, scholars of both countries could not only build closer networks but also strengthen the relationship between the Korea and India by sharing their desires to build closer ties through increased mutual understanding and trust by bolstering cooperation in all fields including culture and academics.
