한국학진흥사업단 김창겸 부단장과 우평균 선임연구원은 일본 도호쿠대학과 일본 ‘도호쿠지역한국학센터설립추진위원회’가 주최하는 한국학진흥간담회에 참석하였다. <도호쿠지역에서「호흡하는 한국학」을 모색하다>라는 주제로 11월 29일에 개최된 이번 한국학진흥간담회는 대한민국 외교부, 센다이(仙台) 총영사관, 한국학진흥사업단, 한국국제교류재단 및 도호쿠대학 등의 한국학 연구자가 참석하여 일본 도호쿠 지역의 한국학 발전방안을 마련하는 논의를 진행하였다. 

도호쿠대학 야마구치 마사히로(山口昌弘) 부총장의 개회사와 김창겸 부단장의 인사말에 이어 한국 전공 인류학자인 시마 무츠히코(島陸奧彦) 도호쿠대학 명예교수가 “도호쿠대학 한국학연구의 발자취”에 관해 발표하였으며, 우평균 선임연구원, 한국국제교류재단 한재호 도쿄사무소 소장, 도호쿠대학 이인자 교수가 한국학 진흥에 관한 주제로 발표하였다.

도호쿠대학은 도쿄대, 교토대와 함께 2017년 일본 정부 지정 국공립대학 지원 프로그램 대상 3개 대학 중 한 곳으로 선정되어 현재 세계적 수준의 대학으로 거듭나기 위한 프로젝트를 추진중이다. 이 프로젝트의 동아시아 연구사업에 한국학을 포함시켜 그 하나의 범주로 발전할 수 있는 방안을 적극 마련할 것이라고 야마구치 부총장은 언급하였다.

Attending a Meeting on Korean Studies Promotion Held at Tohoku University, Japan

Korean Studies Promotion Service (KSPS) Deputy Director Chang-kyum Kim and Senior Researcher Pyeong-gyun Woo attended a meeting on Korean Studies promotion hosted by Tohoku University and the “Committee for Establishing a Korean Studies Center in the Northeast” in Japan. The theme of the meeting, which was held on November 29, 2018, was “Seeking a ‘Breathing Korean Studies’ in the Tohoku Region.” The meeting was convened to provide an opportunity for Korean Studies researchers from the Republic of Korea Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Korean Consulate in Sendai, KSPS, Korea Foundation, Tohoku University, and others to discuss development plans for Korean Studies in northeast Japan.

The meeting began with introductory remarks from Deputy Chancellor of Tohoku University Yamaguchi Masahiro and KSPS Deputy Directory Chang-kyum Kim. Tohoku University Professor Emeritus Shima Mutsuhiko, a scholar of the humanities and Korea, then gave a presentation on the “Path of Korean Studies Research at Tohoku University.” Presentations on Korean Studies were also made by KSPS Senior Researcher Pyeong-gyun Woo, Director of the Korea Foundation Center in Tokyo Jae-ho Han, and Tohokuk University Professor In-ja Lee.

Along with Tokyo University and Kyoto University, Tohoku University is one of three universities selected by the Japanese government for the 2017 National University Support Program and is in the process of implementing a project to raise itself into the ranks of the world’s top universities. Research on Northeast Asia is included in this project, and Deputy Chancellor Yamaguchi Masahiro mentioned that Korean Studies will be actively supported as part of this effort.
