KSPS in Eastern Europe for AKSE Conference 2017 and Project Presentation

Presentation of the KSPS Support Programs at the 2017 AKSE Conference Over the ten-day period from April 17th to the 26th, personnel from the Korean Studies Promotion Service (KSPS) visited Eastern Europe, observing the progress of its various projects as well as examining the present state of Korean Studies in the region. The main purpose of the KSPS visit was to bring together universities selected for the Korean Studies Seed University Projects and Korean Studies Core University Projects; as a foundation upon which to develop mid-to-long term plans for the promotion of Korean Studies in Eastern Europe.

The KSPS itinerary in Eastern Europe included a visit to the Babes-Bolyai University (BBU) in Romania for consultation with BBU officials, regarding the Korean Studies Seed Project. The session involved a review of the Korean Studies infrastructure at BBU and discussions on prospects for the project. This was followed by a stopover at the Sofia University in Bulgaria, where the KSPS and the hosts exchanged ideas regarding the establishment of the Korean Studies Core Project.

The KSPS was also in attendance at the 2017 AKSE (Association of Korean Studies in Europe) Conference held at Charles University (Univerzita Karlova) in Prague, allowing us to reach out to new researchers in Korean Studies with concomitant opportunities for academic networking. After the main conference, the KSPS organized a presentation on the Korean Studies Promotion Project followed by a discussion session, which became a forum where researchers offered a variety of opinions and alternatives on steady progress of Korean Studies in Eastern Europe.
